Dishmantled… (I’m in a cooking competition)

“Some people call me the Nancy Drew of identifying ingredients” – Me, in this show… HAH.

I am featured on the new Quibi show called Dishmantled. Season 1, Episode 7!

Okay so the “Nancy Drew” bit might not be the most truthful thing I’ve ever said in my life… but then again this is reality TV, right?! (Truly, they asked me to say that and I just giggled because it’s not something I would ever think to say… but it made me LOL when I saw it). P.S. If you read too much further there MIGHT be a spoiler so go download the free Quibi app (Season 1, Episode 7) and watch the episode, it’ll take you 10 minutes total, then come back and finish reading!

This is me… Food Blogger Dan. 😀

So I just want to say that when the casting company reached out to me, they said they were looking for “funny & brilliant home cooks”… I’m just so honored to fall into both of those categories (haha).

Okay so. Dishmantled is a show on Quibi which is a new steaming platform (for mobile only) and this show is hosted by none other than THE TITUSS BURGESS (who you may know from the Unbreakable Kimmy Schmidt Netflix show… or Broadway’s The Little Mermaid). Needless to say I was THRILLED when I found out Tituss was the host because he ALSO (like myself) is funny and brilliant.

The whole premise of the show is that they (funny & brilliant Tituss Burgess and guest judges) explode a mystery dish from food canons at the contestants (me & my opponent) and then we have 30 minutes to taste the food, figure out what it is, and then try to re-create that dish…

Easier said than done, my friend!

Me trying to figure out what the heck I tasted in the blow tube…

So once you’re outta the blow tube, you just have to go for it and hope for the best… Based on what I tasted (a lot of mushy stuff that all tasted like tomato juice! YUCK!)… I decided to go for chicken and waffles and a Bloody Mary… I was actually fairly confident in this choice… just not totally sure HOW to make it all from scratch.

My face sums up how I feel about having to make this stuff… well here goes.

Now here are a few pictures that help express my feelings… Yes I really did use every single second and YES the 30 minutes was REAL and they didn’t stop the clock for anything (not even when my opponent knocked over an entire shelf of food and there was broken glass everywhere)… ahh the things you don’t see in the final cut, haha.

Now check out this picture below to see what actually made it on the plate…

Yes this was the final and yes I did serve this to Tituss Burgess, Marcus Samuelsson (celebrity chef) and Michael Che (from SNL)… and YES this is the moment in the show where my heart completely sank. FYI the red sauce was a raspberry syrup I made from scratch to go with it… that was actually quite tasty.

I think I blacked out for part of this because it was so much and I couldn’t believe I got everything on the plate, although it’s NOT pretty at all… would I eat it? mmmm… I might…. okay so I tried a few bites… Okay so I ate a decent amount while cooking let’s all calm down.

Yes, Tituss did make that face at me while judging my food, but he DID say, “THIS Bloody Mary is delicious!!” (We had a good understanding because we’re both… well… say it with me… funny & brilliant)

Just like everything else in life, all good things must come to an end… Here are a few final shots of how I reacted when they announced the winner, but you’ll have to watch the episode on the Quibi App for the final outcome and to see what the prize is ($$$$) – free trial right NOW so download it and set a reminder to cancel later… there’s also some other really great shows (not quite as funny and brilliant as this one) on the app so check those out too! FYI the Quibi app specializes in episodes under 10 minutes so watching this will only make you giggle for that long… but it’s a good time. 🙂

Well my friends, thanks for reading about my experience… I’ve been keeping this a secret since August 2019 so I’m thrilled to share it with the world. I had the time of my life… it was truly one of the coolest days of my life. The show filmed in the same studio as Chopped, and it was just all around cool to see how they film a reality cooking competition… I mean, everything about this was just cool… I’m not sure there is any part of it that I didn’t like, honestly… can this please be my job already? Let me know in the comments what you think of the episode and feel free to ask me questions about the show, the process, or any part of it.

Wash your hands!

Yours,

-Funny & Brilliant, Dan the Food Blogger 😉
